We tell you the story of Villa Castagnola, it must be enjoyed slowly to experience the transformation and charm that this structure brings with it, we anticipate that it seems to enter into a splendid film.
It all began in 1880 when a noble Russian family, the Von Ritters, built their winter residence on the shores of the lake, at the foot of Monte Bré.After 5 years it was bought by a Lucerne family, who first transformed it into a "guesthouse" and later into a hotel.
For three generations, the Schnyder von Wartensees managed it successfully and transformed it into one of the most renowned hotels in Switzerland, after almost a century 1982 the Garzoni family, from Lugano, acquired the three-storey building taking care of the design of the interiors and the redevelopment of its infrastructure, also adding the 4th and 5th floors and a suite of meeting rooms.
In 2002 the Hotel du Midi was bought by the family who transformed it into the splendid Art Residence, also creating a restaurant inside a real art gallery on the ground floor of the building which in the last 10 years has exhibited many internationally renowned exhibitions.
Chef Frank Oerthle was also named "Newcomer of the Year" in 2009 by the GaultMillau guide and the restaurant received its Michelin star in 2010 - the only restaurant in Lugano with such an award.
The passion that the family has had for over 30 in welcoming their guests continues constantly maintaining the warmth of a private villa even if it is the only 5-star superior hotel in Lugano.
Inside there are spaces to discover like all the rooms, in total 74 with 32 Suites and Junior Suites, beautiful, unique, intimate, with colors and textures that combine history and design, creating a concept to live.
The interior and exterior maintain the common thread of elegance, there is a heated indoor swimming pool, which opens onto a large garden equipped with sun loungers, a clay tennis court and a splendid private beach by the lake.
Pampering, relaxation and well-being for oneself continue with a Clarins Beauty Corner and Danilo Hairstyling hairdresser and a space with Sauna and bio-sauna, calidarium and Turkish bath and fitness corner.
We were enchanted by the attention to detail, everything looks like a style wedding favor, perfect for spending time in well-being with all the comforts, an enchanting atmosphere and a team used to hosting with great passion and professionalism.
