Jay Shetty's journey from the quietude of monastic life to the forefront of global motivational speaking is a testament to the transformative power of purpose and storytelling

Early Life and Monastic Pursuits

Born in London in 1987 to Indian parents, Shetty was raised in a Hindu household and educated at Queen Elizabeth's School in Barnet. He later graduated from Cass Business School with a degree in Management Science. A pivotal moment occurred during his university years when he attended a talk by monk Gauranga Das, inspiring him to spend summers in India living with monks. Eventually, Shetty embraced monastic life fully, dedicating three years to studying ancient philosophies and practicing meditation.

Transition to Media and Motivational Speaking

After leaving the monastery in 2013, Shetty returned to London and began sharing his insights through digital media. His compelling videos caught the attention of Arianna Huffington, leading to his role as the host of HuffPost Rise. In 2019, he launched the podcast "On Purpose," which quickly became one of the world's leading health and wellness podcasts, boasting over 35 million monthly downloads.

Authorship and Global Recognition

Shetty's debut book, "Think Like a Monk," published in 2020, draws upon his monastic experiences to provide practical advice for modern living. The book achieved bestseller status in both the New York Times and UK Sunday Times lists. His second book, "8 Rules of Love," further explores themes of relationships and self-awareness.

Entrepreneurial Ventures and Personal Life

Beyond writing and speaking, Shetty co-founded Juni, an adaptogenic sparkling tea brand, with his wife, Radhi Devlukia-Shetty. He also established the Jay Shetty Certification School, offering accredited life coaching programs. The couple resides in Los Angeles, continuing their joint mission to promote wellness and purposeful living.

Controversies and Criticisms

Despite his widespread acclaim, Shetty has faced scrutiny over the accuracy of his monastic claims and allegations of content plagiarism. Investigations have questioned the extent of his time spent in India and the originality of some of his shared content.
